“Last September, my 97 year old step mother, Teddy, suffered a major stroke. She was hospitalized for about three weeks, and was then transitioned to a skilled nursing facility. She spent three months there, and made great progress towards recovery. However, it was not enough for her to resume living on her own, or even in an assisted living facility, where she could function somewhat independently. During all of this, I was responsible for her care, through the Power of Attorney. When she had nearly exhausted her Medicare benefits she had to leave the skilled nursing. The nursing facility referred me to Jessica Straw at ASCAS. Jessica’s task was to help me transition Teddy to an adult family home. She quickly set up a schedule of three different adult family homes to visit, to see if any of them would be suitable for Teddy. They were all selected to be near where Teddy had lived for the last 50+ years, making it easier for friends and family to visit her. The first home we visited was so impressive, that I did not want to continue our tour/inspection of the other homes. We did anyway, and the others were nearly as impressive as the first one. I stuck with my initial reaction, and selected the first home. When we moved Teddy into her new home, for the first couple of days, she wanted to go back to the nursing facility. After a couple of days, she had accepted the new residence, and now, after four months there, she is completely happy there. This move was made so easy for me and for Teddy through the great help that I got from Jessica. She arranged the selection of the homes, the examinations that Teddy needed in order to move into the adult family home, transportation, and I can’t remember what else. I cannot recommend her enough. And in fact, as Teddy has started to succumb to dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, she may have to be relocated to a more intensive setting than she is presently in. If so, I will certainly go back to Jessica for help with that move.”-Tim

"I contacted Jessica from Alderwood Senior Care at an exceptionally stressful time. My father was living in an Assisted Living facility that increased our bill by 20% in one month and we were being asked to pay far more than we ever expected to – or were capable of. I had no idea what to do or who to ask for next steps. I found Jessica’s name on a local Facebook page and gave her a call, an action I am forever grateful for! She talked me off my psychological cliff and explained what some of our options were, particularly surrounding Adult Family Homes. I had a ton of pre-conceived ideas of what AFHs were like, so I had never considered them an option. After 20 minutes of conversation I had an entirely new outlook , as well as a plan of action. Jessica and her assistant Jessica (aka The Jessicas) met with us and showed us a number of homes, talked over the pro/con of each, were endlessly patient, completely transparent and massively supportive through the process from start to finish. I never felt rushed or pushed in any way. Finding a new place for my father to reside was tremendously more emotional than I had expected, and both Jessicas were kind, supportive and understanding through all of my ups and downs. I am so grateful for their assistance and recommend them regularly to anyone I talk to that is looking to help a loved one relocate. The Jessicas have earned my unending support, trust and endorsement of their amazing business. Thank you ladies!"

"Jessica has an entire roster of adult family homes at her command and is personally acquainted with many of their owners, managers and staff. She knows exactly how to winnow the list down to the best 3 or 4 homes that are available in the geographic area you request, at the time you need to find a home for your elder loved one. As a result, you don't have to go through a long, confusing search for a good home. She is bright, cheery, outgoing and really a breath of fresh air at a time that can be very stressful for families. We were referred to her by the Rehabilitation Center at the Hearthstone retirement home. The entire experience was a positive one and we were able to find my dad a wonderful home in only one afternoon."
